What is SIMA and
What it Does ?
SIMA (Southern India Mill's Association)
was Established in 1933 by late Sir .K.Shanmugam Chettiar, The first
Finance Minister of Independent India.It Started with 11 members,
at present,the members of SIMA count to 360 textile mills
spread over the states of Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerala,
Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra,
and The Union Territory of Pondicherry.

SIMA
member mills account for 9.2 million spindles and 10,925 looms. |

Out
of the total spinning capacity of 32 million spindles in the country, 10
million (approx) spindles are represented by SIMA. |

Approximately
0.2 million workers are employed in SIMA member mills. |
 |
SIMA
member mills together produced 33.6% of total cotton yarn manufactured
in the country. |
50%
of cotton yarn exported from India
came from southern textile mills.
