Get rid of the dirt
Scratch away accumulated sediments on the walls to keep the water tank clem. If left unattended for long, the tank becomes home to algae bacterial growth

In these days of limited water supplies, every dwelling is forced to go in for adequate water storage facilities. For those not having an open well or a borewell, the option is limited to go for a sump to store the water whenever it trickles down the tap.

The circulation system is complete with an overhead tank used distribute water to taps and showers in kitchen and bath facility.

However, sump and tank is one of the most neglected maintenance aspects in most homes. Though aware on the need for regular cleaning and disinfection of water storage facility, not many really pay the needed attention. If left unattended for long spells, the tanks become home for smile, algae and bacterial growth apart from sediments. Here are a few steps that could help in keeping the water storage clean.

Start by draining the water from tanks and remove the dirt from inside. Scratch away all the sediments that had accumulated on the walls and the base and shift the same out of the tank.

You can also use a mix of detergent used in homes to scrub it away. Use clean and potable water to rinse the internal surface and then drain the wash water too.

Use bleach
For disinfection purposes, use bleach that is easily available at most of the super markets. Read instructions of use as printed on the bleach packs and follow them scrupulously, including the advised mix.

Flush and fill tha tank with fresh attached to local municipal or water board officials on right way of chlorination and make it a regular feature of maintenance.
