In Vaasthu Shastra, the most important aspect
is the selection of site. The soil is to be tested for its compactness
by digging one cubic feet of earth and filling back the soil.
If some soil is remains after filling the pit then the site is
said to be good. This means that the soil of the site is compact
and not loose. By this test, the strength of the soil is known
which guarantees more stability of the building constructed.
Sites with cracks and too many rat holes are unsuitable for construction.
Sites with cracks caused due to tremors are to be totally avoided.
Excessively windy areas, land near cemeteries, mortuaries, market
places, public places like a panchayat where people assemble,
land belonging to temple, land where the shadow of the gopura
of a temple falls, land where the shadow of big peeple tree falls,
land near river beds and lake beds, land near any temple, land
where immoral activities are carried on are prohibited for construction.
Vaastu Shastra dwelt upon the need for tranquility of inmates
while constructing residential buildings. Today, people residing
next to wedding halls, schools and colleges suffer as they are
subjected to noise pollution.
Shape matters
Vaasthu Shastra categorises land as suitable and unsuitable as
per the shape of the site. Houses should not be built in triangular,
circular,scissor-shaped plots which cut across streets and fan-shaped
sites. The owner will lose his tranquility if the site is irregular
and shapeless. Rectangular sites, in which north and south portions
are longer than east and west, are good.
Sites with east and west sides longer than north and south, are
considered second grade yet suitable for construction. Square
plots having equal sides are the best and bring all types of prosperity
in a well balanced manner.
If north-east corner is longer than the south-east corner, there
will be prosperity and growth in financial matters. Here, one
should take the diagonal of the site and measure the diagonals
from north-east to south- west and from south-east to north-west.
The effects are caused by the geophysical energies, which in turn
are caused by the magnetic field surrounding the earth. If the
house is not constructed as per the rules, there will be disturbance
in the house due to the variations caused in geophysical energies.
Vaasthu Shastra dwells on inducing proper energy levels in buildings
for the welfare of mankind. These energies are felt and experienced
like a magnetic field with the house as the core centre.
